Is ZYN different in Europe? Same brand, different pouch
Yes - effectively different products. US ZYN is a drier mini pouch with a narrow strength range. European ZYN is typically a moister, heavier slim pouch sold across a much wider range and often labeled in mg/g rather than mg per pouch. A "6" in one market is not the same experience as a "6" in the other.
What actually differs
- Format and weight. A US mini is around 0.3–0.45 g; an EU slim is around 0.7–0.75 g. More material means more surface contact with the gum.
- Moisture. Moister pouches begin releasing nicotine sooner, shifting the curve earlier.
- Labeling convention. US cans print mg per pouch; EU cans commonly print mg/g, which must be multiplied by weight. See mg vs dots vs mg/g.
- Range. The US original line is narrow (3 and 6 mg); European ranges run far higher, and other EU brands reach into the teens.
Why the number travels badly
Felt strength follows free nicotine and release speed, not the printed total. A moister, heavier slim at the same milligrams typically rises faster and peaks higher than a dry mini. Buying the same number abroad is therefore a change in dose, not a like-for-like swap.
Translate it instead of matching the number
The Pouch Decoder's "Translate my pouch" section gives you both answers side by side: the target-market milligram figure with a similar felt peak, and the percentage difference you would get by copying your number exactly. Target-market pH and format are estimated defaults - directional only.

Frequently asked
- Is ZYN stronger in Europe than in the US?
- They are effectively different products. US ZYN is a drier, mini-format pouch with a narrow strength range; European ZYN is typically a moister, slim-format pouch offered in a much wider strength range. Same brand and number, different formulation.
- Why does a European 6 mg feel different from a US 6 mg?
- A heavier, moister slim pouch releases nicotine faster and holds more material against the gum, so the same total milligrams can produce a faster rise and a higher peak than a dry mini.
- Can I convert a US strength to a European one?
- Only approximately. The Pouch Decoder gives two honest answers: the European milligram figure that produces a similar felt peak, and how different the identical number would feel. Target-market pH and format defaults are estimated, not measured.
